There is no difference in terms of the weightage of an Online doctoral degree and an Offline Doctoral degree. Both degrees are equal and enable you to "Dr" title upon their completion. However, there are differences in their duration, eligibility, and focus of study. An offline doctoral degree generally takes 5 years to complete and the eligibility for it is a master's degree in the relevant field of research. On the other hand, an Online Doctorate is designed for working professionals who have significant work experience of 3 to 5 years. It can be pursued after a bachelor's degree also.

One of the main differences between an Online Doctorate and an Offline Doctorate is the focus of study. The offline doctorate focuses on academic learning whereas the Online doctorate focuses on practical-oriented learning. An online Doctorate is the best choice if you want rapid career progression in the industry.

Online doctoral degrees have been helpful because students are able to study while based anywhere in the world, and the online format allows students to remain engaged in their studies and often at their own pace. Online doctorate studies can appeal to working professionals who want to continue their careers while earning a doctoral degree. Online delivery formats typically employ some combination of virtual lectures, online research materials, and remote supervision. Offline doctorate studies typically involve regularly scheduled classes on campus with face-to-face interaction with faculty members and full access to on-campus facilities. Offline doctorate study may involve more structured help with learning and provide opportunities for networking and peer support; however, offline study also requires students to physically engage with face-to-face interactions that may be less convenient. Overall, both online and offline study streams will be similar in their rigour at comparable institutions; however, the reputation and the source of accreditation can have implications.
