Savitribai Phule Pune University was established on 10 February 1949 under the Poona University Act in the northwestern part of Pune city. It is one of the premier universities in India and houses 46 academic departments. With about 307 recognized research institutes and 612 affiliated colleges offering graduate and undergraduate courses, the university is famous as the “Oxford of the East.”
With a team of 293 teachers, Savitribai Phule Pune University attracts many foreign students due to its excellent teaching facilities. The university even offers different scholarships to national and international students on different parameters. Savitribai Phule Pune University established its School of Open Learning (SoL) in 2018. This SOL of the university offers Undergraduate/Postgraduate Degree courses in the fields of Arts and Commerce. Being a prestigious university in Maharashtra, Savitribai Phule Pune University uses both Marathi and English as the medium of instruction. The university has also established the Centre for Internal Quality Assurance (CIQA) to ensure that the quality of education is not compromised while delivering it in online and distance learning modes.

There is no information regarding the EMI options while applying to Savitribai Phule Pune University School of Open Learning. However, there is one advantage of paying the fee in annual mode that includes the registration fee, study material fee, tuition fee, eligibility fee, study center fee, and examination fee. Thus, on paying the fee once a year, you do not have to pay for anything else throughout the year.
Savitribai Phule Pune University Admission Process
The admission process at the Savitribai Phule Pune University School of Open Learning can be completed in the following steps:
Online Admission Process:
Step 1:For some of the programs, the candidates need to appear for the entrance exam, and on getting selected, they will have to submit the Online Admission Form.
Step 2: While filling out the admission form, a student has to select a study center for the ODL program from the list of the Study Centres (colleges) mentioned in the online admission form. The Distance Education study centers of the university are located in Pune, Ahilyanagar & Nashik City.
Step 3: After this, you will have to pay the admission fee online.
Step 4:After paying the admission fee online, download your admission form & fee receipt (PDF File). You must also take a printout of the same.
Admission Process at Study Centre (College):
Step 1:After the online admission process, you have to submit the printed copy of the admission form with the required documents at the study center (college) that you have selected in your admission form.
Step 2: The documents you need to submit at the study center include the Admission Form (Original & Xerox Copy), ABC-ID / APAR-ID Card (Original & Xerox Copy), S.S.C. (10th Standard) Certificate (Original & Xerox Copy), Mark sheet of Bachelor Degree (Original & Xerox Copy; in case you are taking admission to a PG program), Proof of Change in Students’ name, if any (Original & Xerox Copy), and Transfer Certificate/Migration Certificate.
Step 3:You must submit the admission form at the study center within the prescribed time limit only. If you miss the deadline, your admission will be canceled by the university.
Note: i) Transfer Certificate is required in case the previous admission is:
- in the college affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University or
- as a regular student in any Department of Savitribai Phule Pune University or
- as an external student of Savitribai Phule Pune University (A Transfer Certificate is not required if the previous admission is in the School of Open and Distance Learning of Savitribai Phule Pune University.)
ii) Migration Certificate is required in case the previous admission is in the Department/ College of any other University.”

Savitribai Phule Pune University Examination Pattern
The examination scheme of the university consists of two factors: Internal Assessment & End-Semester Examination. These are conducted for every subject in your course structure. The weightage of marks in the Internal & End-Semester Examination is in the ratio of 30:70. Internal Assessment will be provided by your Study Center in the form of Assignment Questions. You will have to complete it & submit the same
to the Study Center within the specified time frame. The End-Semester Examination is conducted by the Examination Department of the university in the pen-and-paper format. The minimum mark that you need to score in written exams of each subject is 40%.
