UGC has introduced a curriculum and credit framework for Postgraduate programs per NEP 2020.
Benefits of Updated Framework
As per the proposed framework, PG students will have the flexibility to move from one stream to another, choose the courses of their interest, switch to alternative modes of learning, and for multiple entry and exit.
Eligibility Requirements for PG Programs
A UG degree with Hon/Hon with Research for a 1-year/2-semester PG program. A 3-year/6-semester UG degree for a 2-year/4-semester PG program. A 4-year UG degree (B.E., B.Tech. etc.) for a 2-year/4-semester PG program (M.E., M. Tech. etc.)
Minimum Credit Points Required
160 Credit Points with a UG degree with Hon/ Hon with Research and a 4-year UG degree (B.E., B.Tech. etc.). 120 Credit Points with a 3-year/6-semester UG degree.
Curriculum Components
For 2-year PG: Only coursework or only research in the second year, or coursework+research. For a 1-year PG: Either only coursework or research or coursework+research. For a 5-year Integrated Program: similar to a 2-year PG curriculum.
What are the Exit Criteria?
Students entering a 2-year PG program will be allowed to exit after the first year with a Postgraduate Diploma.
