UGC Notice

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is an exam for candidates who wish to pursue a Master's of Engineering, Master of Technology, or a PhD from government universities such as Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Technology, and Institutes of Information Technology. It is administered jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and Seven Indian Institutes of Technology acting on behalf of the National Coordinating Board (NCB).  Before giving the exam, it is recommended that the candidate check the cut-off list so that they will get an idea of what the qualifying marks are.

If you are someone who is taking the GATE exam to do a master's or PhD but could not clear it, then you do not have to worry because you have an alternate route of online DBA9Doctor of Business Administration), which is equivalent to a PhD degree. It means that once you complete this program in the same field, you will get the recognition of a Dr. title, just like a PhD. Additionally, a student who has completed a bachelor's and wants to pursue a DBA should have at least 2 to 3 years of work experience, and if you have already completed your master's, then there is no need for work experience.

The cut-off marks of GATE determine the minimum marks required for candidates to pass the test. Cut-offs differ depending on the discipline and category of the candidates. Qualifying marks for the General category are given below:

Discipline

Civil Engineering (CE)

29.2

Mechanical Engineering (ME)

Electrical Engineering (EE)

Electronics & Communication Engineering (EC)

Computer Science & Information Technology (CS)

Note: These marks are the minimum to pass the exam. Cut-offs for admissions for different institutes can be higher.
