The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has taken a significant stride in providing Agniveers with skill-based education possibilities. The university has officially begun the online registration process for Agniveers interested in enrolling in the institution's skill-based Bachelor's Degree Programs. Aspiring students can apply for these courses via IGNOU's official website.

IGNOU University has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Indian Air Force (IAF), Indian Navy, and Indian Army to provide skill-based undergraduate courses to Agniveers. This collaboration with the Armed Forces guarantees that Agniveers obtain thorough and practical skill-based education, increasing their employability and professional preparedness.

Skill-based Bachelor’s Degree Programmes Offered

For Agniveers, IGNOU now offers five skill-based bachelor's degree programs in various fields. These programs are specially designed to provide students with practical skills that will prepare them for various sectors. There are five courses available:

  • Bachelor of Science (Applied Skills) - BSCAS
  • Bachelor of Arts (Applied Skills) Tourism Management - BAASTM
  • Bachelor of Arts (Applied Skills) - BAAS
  • Bachelor of Commerce (Applied Skills) - BCOMAS
  • Bachelor of Arts (Applied Skills) MSME - BAASMSME

These skill-based programs each have a total of 120 credits. IGNOU provides 60 credits through its courses, while the Armed Forces supply the remaining 60 as in-service skill education. This relationship guarantees that Agniveers obtain a well-rounded education that integrates academic and practical knowledge.

The Armed Forces' skill courses have been authorised by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET). This regulatory clearance emphasises the courses' quality and industrial relevance, making them significant assets for Agniveers looking to flourish in their industries.

These skill-based programs at IGNOU align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 guidelines. The NEP 2020 promotes the convergence of higher education and skill development, highlighting the importance of bridging the gap between academic and industrial requirements. IGNOU hopes to produce a workforce that is not only well-educated but also equipped with practical skills following industry expectations by adopting these skill-based courses.
