Introduction
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is the most famous engineering college in India that has different branches in India. There is a mass competition among students to get admission to the IIT colleges to pursue various technical courses because of its facilities, faculties, and lower fee structure.
In this article, we are going to tell you about the fee structure of the M.Tech course offered by IIT in different branches and the availability of seats for the M.Tech course in those branches.
About IIT M.Tech
Indian Institute of Technology offers various undergraduate and postgraduate engineering courses to students. M.Tech is one of the postgraduate engineering courses provided by the university in various specializations. It is a 2-year postgraduate course pursued by the student after completing a bachelor’s degree in technology.
In order to get admission at any IIT college for the M.Tech course, the candidate needs to give an entrance exam GATE. Graduate Aptitude Technology Exam (GATE) is taken by the university for considering the ability of the student or checking the knowledge that they attained during BTech. GATE is a national level entrance examination that is valid for admission to all colleges nation wide. However, it is a very difficult examination, so not everybody is able to pass it.
Therefore, there are other examinations as well. There are state level and even university level entrance examinations that you can give to get admission to the M.Tech program. However, if you do not wish to give an entrance exam, then you have one other great option called a part-time M.Tech course which is also often known as M.Tech for working professionals program. We will be discussing about the same later in the article as well.

IIT Delhi Admission Procedure
- IIT admissions for postgraduate courses generally begin in the month of March.
- IIT M.Tech admission is based on a GATE score which is an entrance exam to determine the mindset and knowledge of the students that they get during their prior studies of science and technology. IITD also conducts its own written test and/or interview for selection in these courses.
- The candidates are required to give this entrance examination to get admission to the M.Tech course with greater than 300 ranks as there are only limited seats available in IITs.
- For application, you need to register on the official website of IIT and GATE COPE so that you can check the cut-off lists from there.

Part-Time M.Tech Program
If you are someone who can not afford the M.Tech fees for IITs, then there is nothing to worry because you have the option to pursue a part time M.Tech program. The University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) have come up with the part-time engineering courses to help students and working professionals with financial difficulties to continue higher studies without worrying about the fees.
The total fees for the part-time M.Tech course is between the range of INR 1-2.5 lakhs for the complete 2-year course. This affordable fee structure helps candidates freely complete their dream of pursuing a higher (PG) degree in engineering without thinking twice about the expenses. The course is for a duration of 2 years (4 semesters) and students can pay their fees in installments semester-wise.
Conclusion
So here in this blog, I have mentioned the details about the fee structure of the M.Tech program offered by different Indian Institutes of Technology. In addition, I’d like to point out that you can get direct admission to the M.Tech program without carrying an entrance exam, as many colleges provide direct admission to the M.Tech program.
You can also complete the M.Tech program without attending regular classes. If you are a working professional who wants to enroll in an M.Tech course without having to leave your job, you can enroll in M.Tech Evening or M.Tech Part-Time courses, which do not require you to be present in the classroom every day and the fee structure of these programs is also affordable.
