With the festival season and the bad weather that occurred in several states over the last days, many parents and students want to know if schools will be open on Monday, November 3. Most of the schools in the country will be working as usual but a district in Uttar Pradesh has made an official announcement of a short holiday.
A holiday has been declared for all government and private schools in Anupshahr block area of Bulandshahr district in Uttar Pradesh from November 3 to 6.
The temporary closure of schools in Anupshahr is due to fair. The Lakhmi Kartik Purnima Fair or Kartik Purnima Ganga Snan Mela is a big religious and cultural festival that attracts thousands and thousands of devotees and tourists.
The local administration in Bulandshahr has decided that schools will be closed in Anupshahr so that they can control crowd and avoid traffic jams during the fair. However, the schools and colleges in the rest of the district will remain open.
The southern and eastern states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Odisha, which were the four states to be affected by Cyclone Montha, are slowly returning to normal.
Following a latest update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the schools that were shuttered owing to the rain warning should open on Monday 3 November.
According to the IMD, Cyclone Montha has lost a lot of intensity, but the IMD cautions of possibly heavy thunderstorms and light rain in some spots. Ultimately, school officials will decide whether to close schools depending on the local weather situation and student safety. All schools along the coast that are still operating as relief centres will have to close for some time until emptied and cleaned.
At this time, there is no indication of a statewide closure from the weather for Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, or Telangana. Most schools will continue normal operation beginning Monday.
However, in isolated, flood impacted areas, local officials might choose to close schools temporarily due to the poor conditions of the roads or other infrastructure. In cases like these, parents should contact the school directly or check with the local education authority for the most relevant, up-to-date information from the district to make decisions regarding their children.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has a similar forecast for Amaravati and Chennai centers that southern states of India would have mostly clear weather for the entire week. It is expected some rain on November 3 and 4 in Rayalaseema, North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and few parts of South Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Considering such a situation, schools have to be on the lookout and keep students' security as the topmost priority in case of a sudden change in weather.
In a lot of places, schools have moved towards the utilization of official WhatsApp groups to keep the communication going and spreading the good news of holidays, exams, and weather.
Parents have to make sure they are in the loop by having access to these groups and trusting only the official info. Most schools are giving their last, minute updates, especially during bad weather, through these groups at odd hours of the night or early morning.
