According to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, artificial intelligence can be instrumental in making education more inclusive, accessible, and student-centric. While presiding over the 3rd meeting of the Consultative Committee on the use of Artificial Intelligence in teaching and learning, he said these things.
The whole focus of the meeting was on the use of AI at schools and universities for the betterment of education and solving the long-lasting problems of the education system. The minister states that AI has the power to make learning more personalized, lessen the disparities in learning, and effectively fulfill the requirements of both the students and the teachers.
Pradhan emphasized that the government's strategy is student-centered and not system-oriented. Instead of asking all students to adapt to one strict framework, he said that the use of technology should be to modify education for different learning styles, languages, and abilities.
Officials gave a presentation on how artificial intelligence is slowly but surely being implemented in the education system in accordance with NEP 2020. One of the major points is that right from the school level computational thinking along with basic artificial intelligence concepts in a manner understandable to a child should be introduced.
Schools are also encouraged to move towards more project work where students learn through solving the real-world problems. AI at the senior secondary level is formally introduced as a skill-based subject to equip the students for future jobs.
Various AI-driven digital platforms were brought up during the session. They are DIKSHA 2.0 for digital learning resources, e-Jaadui Pitara for early education, Guru-Mitra and the TARA app for teacher support, My Career Advisor for career guidance, and Vidya Samiksha Kendra for monitoring student progress. The mentioned digital tools facilitate personalized learning, teacher's support, the provision of content in multiple languages, and real-time tracking of learning outcomes.
The talks also touched on the application of AI in higher education institutions. AI is cited as the main factor for raising the standard of the teaching process, attracting more research and innovations, and increasing the employability of the graduates, explained the officials.
Universities are modifying their syllabi to incorporate AI and interdisciplinary courses, besides that, they are upgrading both digital and physical infrastructures to facilitate advanced learning and research. These measures are aimed at producing future-ready graduates who will be able to work in a technology-driven economy.
The administration is convinced that the use of AI will allow India’s education system to keep up with the global standards, and at the same time that students from various backgrounds will have equal access to quality learning opportunities.
