The Delhi High Court has underlined the “presumption of correctness” in the official birth certificates of the candidates and has ordered the CBSE to correct the records of a student. A bench of Justices Harish V Shankar and Subramonium Prasad highlighted the “imminent need” to ensure all the official documents are in consonance with each other. The documents not only provided certainty on the specific personal details of the public official documents and also helped in preserving the citizen’s identity with the correct date of birth.
HC said that a citizen of this country is always entitled to a true and right narration of all the important and relevant details in the public documents that sustain to them. The CBSE is a record keeper of these considerable importance.
The High Court bench’s observation came while declining the appeal of the CBSE against the single judge’s direction over the correct date of birthof a candidate in the certificates issued in year 1999.
