GATE 2026 Registration Dates Changed! Check the Latest Application and Examination Schedule

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has changed the registration schedules for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026. Now, as per the recent updates, the application process would begin from the 28th August 2025 and the candidates can now apply until 28th September 2025 on the official website at gate2026.iitg.ac.in . Previously, the registration was said to start from 25th August 2025 and end on 25th September 2025.

Candidates who will miss their regular deadline will still get a chance at registering during the extended period from 29th September 2025 to 9th October 2025. These candidates will be required to pay a late registration fee of ₹500. The application process would require the candidate to create a login ID, fill in their academic and personal details, and upload all the required documents, pay the application fee, and submit the form online.

The GATE exam of session 2026 would be held on 7th, 8th, and 14th, and 15th February 2026. There will be two sessions each day from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, and a second session from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. The results will be announced on 19th March 2026.

In the current session, IIT Guwahati has started a new Energy Science section in the Engineering Sciences (XE) paper. GATE will have over 30 disciplines, including Electronics and Communication, Computer Science, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and many more.

The application fee has also changed. Female applicants, SC, ST, and PwD candidates must pay a fee of ₹1000, and the other candidates need to pay a fee of ₹2000. Students incurring an extended period application need to pay a late fee.

GATE is one of the most competitive exams for the engineering graduates, which opens the road to MTech, PhD, and PSU recruitment all over the India.
