GATE 2026 Registration Ends Today: Last Chance with Regular Fees

The GATE 2026 registration will be closed by 11:59 PM on October 6. The application is the final chance of candidates to make applications without any late fee to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an important examination among students who have to get into the MTech degree programs in the renowned IITs and NITs in India.

Extended Registration with Late Fee

Applicants not meeting today's deadline may still apply within a longer period of time between October 7 and October 9, 2025, but will have to pay a late fee.

Application Process

Aspiring candidates can only submit the application form online via:

  1. Open the GATE Online Application Portal System (GOAPS) at gate2026.iitg.ac.in. 
  2. On the Homepage, click on “Register Here”.
  3. Fill in the application details and upload the required documents like photographs, signatures and valid ID proofs,
  4. Complete the payment of the applicable fee and submit the form.
  5. Save a copy of the application form for further reference.

Fee Structure

Registration fees will depend on the category of candidates:

Ordinary Term (Up to October 6):

  • Female/SC/ST/PwD: INR 1,000 per paper.
  • General and OBC: INR 2,000 per paper.

Extended Period (October 7-9):

  • Females/SC/ST/PwD: INR 1,500 per paper.
  • General and OBC: INR 2,500 per paper.

Exam Details

The test is supposed to be conducted on 7, 8, 14 and 15 February 2026 in 2 shifts, which would be held between 9.30 am to 12.30 pm, and 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm. The Gate 2026 test will be 30 subject papers, and a new sectional energy science (XE-I) paper is introduced under Engineering Sciences this year.

Important Dates

  • Deadline to Correct Windows: November 6, 2025.
  • Admit Card Release: January 2, 2026
  • Result: March 19, 2026
  • Scorecard Download: March 27 to May 31, 2026.

Key Points for Applicants

No age limit has been placed on the need to appear in the GATE examination. Entrants with at least three years, or higher, of undergraduate studies, or those who have completed government-recognized degrees in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities are eligible to apply.

All registered candidates will be emailed a special GATE enrollment ID that will be the reference ID in all subsequent communications during the examination process.

It is recommended that applicants maintain a consistent internet connection and compatibility with their browsers long before starting the application, so that they do not experience technical problems when submitting the application.
