IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi Campus Expands to International Reach in Malaysia, Singapore, and Other Southeast Asian Countries

IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi Campus is broadening its campus outreach to invite students from Malaysia, Singapore, and other Southeast Asian Countries. It is utilizing the Indian population to spread awareness about the IITs abroad. It was established on 2nd September 2024, in Khalifa City with an agreement between the Indian and UAE Governments. UAE supports the funding and IIT Delhi provides the academic and research support. 

Dr. Shantanu Roy, Executive Director of IIT Delhi was quoted saying that the campus is making compelling progress in its first year, by launching two UG courses, a PG and a PhD course. According to Roy, the Abu Dhabi Campus is coordinating with UAE’s 2050 vision, which enforces technology and innovation in energy, water resources, space, and sustainability. And, from the Indian Government’s perspective, it backs the National Education Policy (NEP) of establishing global campuses.

Undergraduate students get enrolled through the JEE Advanced and Combined Admission Entrance Test (CAET). CAET is for UAE students, including expatriates living for 5 years in the UAE

Who Can Apply?

  • UAE residents in or completed 12th.
  • International Students (not from India or UAE)
  • UAE residents (Indian Origin), completed grade 8 to 12th in UAE.

Short Term Courses

Over 31 certificate programs/short term courses like:-

  • 5G and its applications in IoT and AI
  • Business Analytics and Optimisation
  • Business Management
  • Data Science and Machine Learning
  • Digital Marketing
  • Design Thinking and Innovation
  • And many more

Energy and Sustainability are the biggest impact areas, under which the institute is undertaking a dual approach in cleaning fossil fuels and converting the renewable energy. Roy said that, Chemical Engineering is nowadays the new energy focus, and with this thought the campus is introducing a Chemical Engineering Programme, having a total of 60 seats. The campus helps in the UAE’s strategic shift towards a cleaner energy focus.

UAE has a unique energy landscape, and with this IIT Delhi, Abu Dhabi is investing more in research and development with the regional needs while countering the global energy disputes and challenges. According to Roy, “what works in UAE, might not always work in Europe or in India or Europe”.
