Maharashtra Cabinet Approves PM SETU Implementation in ITIs

The Maharashtra cabinet has approved the rollout of the PM SETU scheme in government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to strengthen skill development and improve employability among youth.

Under the first phase, the scheme will be implemented in ITIs located in Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Pune. The programme will be expanded to additional districts in subsequent phases.

Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs, was launched on October 4, 2025, with the objective of modernising 1,000 government ITIs nationwide. The initiative focuses on upgrading training infrastructure and strengthening placement support for trainees.

The cabinet meeting, chaired by Devendra Fadnavis, also approved several other key decisions:

• Adoption of the Trade Receivables Discounting System (TReDS) to clear pending contractor payments, offering relief to MSMEs linked with the Public Works Department.
• Revival of the Jawahar Shetkari Cooperative Spinning Mill, with a proposal for financial assistance to be sent to the National Cooperative Development Corporation.
• Extension of lease periods for government land allotted under existing land revenue laws.
• Approval of stamp duty waiver on transactions involving “enemy property” under central or state control.

All these decisions are aiming towards the skill development of the nation and at the same time reducing the financial stress on small businesses, and also taking care of the industrial and cooperative revival all across the different states.
