UGC Notice

In a major action against cheating in examinations, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has cancelled the NEET PG scores of 22 students in five series of exams between 2021 and 2025.

Among 22 candidates, those results were cancelled in NEET PG, 13 were found in 2025, 3 in 2024, 4 in 2023 and one in 2022 and 2021. The disqualifications have been the greatest during the latest examination cycle.

The NBEMS ethics committee disqualified 21 candidates who were found to have used unfair means when taking NBEMS examinations. One of them, Srusti Bommanahalli Rajanna, had their candidature cancelled after the writ petition had been disposed of before the Karnataka High Court.

NBEMS has made it clear that scorecards given to these candidates cannot be considered valid anymore. The employment, enrollment, registration and admission to postgraduate courses or higher education by using these scorecards, in any way, is illegal.

In addition, the board also claims no responsibility or liability in cases of employment, admission, or enrollment on the basis of cancelled NEET PG results.

Relatedly, NBEMS has also cancelled the candidature of 11 applicants who were registered in the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) between 2021 and 2025 on account of unfair means.

A total of 2.42 lakh candidates took NEET PG 2025, of which 1.28 lakh were found qualified to be given admission to MD, MS, and PGD courses. Nevertheless, this is not the case since the MCC NEET PG counselling schedule has not yet been released in 2025 because an analysis on exam transparency is still under scrutiny in the courts, and petitions to have the full set of questions and answer keys are still being pursued.
