The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially scheduled the Re-NEET UG 2026 examination for June 21, nearly seven weeks after cancelling the May 3 exam over an alleged paper leak controversy. Alongside the revised exam schedule, the agency has opened a limited correction window, allowing candidates to update their current address and preferred exam city choices till May 21, 2026.
The decision impacts more than 22 lakh medical aspirants seeking admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, nursing and allied medical programmes across India. Fresh admit cards for the re-examination are expected to be issued around one week before the exam.
The re-test announcement follows growing scrutiny over the integrity of the original examination, which was scrapped after allegations of a question paper leak surfaced. The matter is currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

As part of preparations for the re-examination, the NTA has activated a limited correction facility for registered candidates. However, this window is restricted to only a few fields.
Candidates can modify:
The agency clarified that no correction fee will be charged for these changes.
At the same time, several details remain locked. Candidates cannot edit personal information, exam language/medium, category details or other registration fields during this correction period.
Students satisfied with their earlier city choices do not need to take any action, as previous preferences will remain valid automatically.
The controversy surrounding the cancelled exam has intensified after reports suggested investigators are examining whether the alleged leak may have originated from within the examination system itself.
According to media reports citing court proceedings, the CBI informed a Delhi court that investigators suspect a possible insider connection, with leaked material allegedly circulated through contacts linked to an “NTA source.”
Investigators are reportedly examining digital evidence, including Telegram messages, electronic records and leaked PDF documents that allegedly surfaced before the examination.
Sources claim a document containing 500 to 600 questions circulated online days before the May 3 exam, with approximately 180 questions allegedly matching the final NEET paper.
The agency has already detained multiple accused from states including Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Haryana, while continuing its investigation into a wider network behind the alleged malpractice.
Candidates who wish to update their city preferences can follow these steps:
The NTA has advised candidates to rely only on official announcements and avoid misinformation circulating online regarding the re-examination process.
Meanwhile, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan recently indicated that NEET may gradually move towards a Computer-Based Test (CBT) format in the coming years as part of broader examination reforms.
