NTA Clears Confusion on JEE Main 2026 No City Choice Rumour

UGC Notice

National Testing Agency (NTA) has made some clarification on the new confusion over the city allocation of the JEE Main 2026 exam. This was the cause of the confusion after an advisory issued by the agency on the 29th of September 2025, which advised students to renew their Aadhaar and UDID cards. The social media misreported that this notice changed the policy, which allowed the students to select their preferred factors in terms of the examinations in JEE Main, NEET, and CUET.

What NTA Actually Said

NTA has clarified that the advisory has nothing to do with the distribution of cities and centres to take the exam. Rather, it is a precautionary measure that tries to stave off personal details mismatches during the application.

The notice recommends that candidates ensure that the following information is checked on his or her Aadhaar card and other relevant documents prior to registration:

  • Name (must be identical to Class 10 marksheet)
  • Accurate date of birth
  • Updated photograph
  • Present and accurate residential address.
  • Proper referencing of the father's name.

This is an advisory that is supposed to make the application process smooth and minimise the chances of application rejection or mismatching of information.

According to NTA, this advice does not impact the procedure of city or centre allocation of JEE Main 2026 or any other exams administered by NTA. The current process will still imply that the students can choose the cities where they would like to take the exams when completing the application form.

NTA has encouraged the candidates and parents to avoid being deceived by false and unsubstantiated information on the Internet. The notice of the 29th of September is only supposed to assist the candidates to be consistent in their personal details in the different documents, an act that can avoid any technical problems in the registration.
