UGC Notice

A new Sliding Mechanism has been introduced to the candidates by the Staff Selection Commission recently to address and improve the issue that some seats remain unfilled due to the number of candidates not being able to appear for the document verification. SSC conducts recruitment for various Ministries, Departments, and Organisations under the Government of India. So, to prevent this from happening to a number of aspirants.

What is the SSC Sliding Mechanism?

Basically, this Sliding Mechanism is a well-structured post-allocation system that adds on to an additional round of adjustment after the initial allocation. Furthermore, it has happened that SSC has not released the waiting list for multiple exams, and the posts which are vacant are moved forward to the next cycle. So, under this new system, these vacant posts or vacancies are offered to the eligible candidates solely based on their merits and preferences with the help of a single sliding round. This mainly ensures that there is a drop in vacancy backlog.

Why Did SSC Introduce This System?

The main reasons behind unfilled vacancies are:

  • Aspirants being absent during the time of document verification
  • Formalities not completed
  • Refusal to join after being selected

The Sliding Mechanism helps reduce such unutilised vacancies while providing fair opportunities to deserving candidates.

How FRTA (First Round of Tentative Allocation) Works

The First Round of Tentative Allocation (FRTA) is the initial stage of post allotment.

Posts are allocated based on:

  • Merit Rank
  • Candidate’s Post Preference

This allocation is provisional and subject to identity verification through Aadhaar authentication at the respective SSC Regional Director (RD) office.

Identity Verification Process

Those candidates who have been shortlisted must visit the SSC Regional Director office approximately 10 days prior to the date:

During this stage:

  • Identity is only verified with Aadhaar authentication
  • Candidates need to select one: FIX or FLOAT

Failure to appear within the given timeframe will result in disqualification from the process.

FIX vs FLOAT Option Explained

Under the Sliding Mechanism, candidates must choose between two options:

FIX Option

  • Accept the allotted post
  • No eligibility for upgradation
  • In case the candidates don't join, vacancies should be moved to the next cycle

FLOAT Option

  • Candidate agrees to be considered for higher-preference posts
  • Upgradation is possible if a vacancy arises
  • Once upgraded, the decision is final and binding
  • The candidate must join the upgraded post

Single Round Sliding Process

SSC will conduct only one sliding round.

In this round:

  • Vacancies created due to non-joining or absence are identified
  • Candidates who selected FLOAT are considered for upgradation
  • Upgradation is done strictly on merit and preference
  • A revised final result is published after the sliding round

Rules for Post Upgradation

Under the Sliding Mechanism:

  • Only candidates who selected FLOAT are eligible
  • Upgradation depends on merit and the availability of higher preference posts
  • Once upgraded, the previous post stands cancelled
  • Joining the upgraded post is mandatory
  • Failure to join leads to cancellation of candidature

What Happens If a Candidate Is Absent?

If a candidate fails to appear for identity verification:

  • Marked as absent
  • Removed from further process
  • No appeal or request entertained
  • Vacancy moves to the sliding round

Benefits of the SSC Sliding Mechanism

The newly introduced system aims to make recruitment more efficient and transparent.

Key benefits include:

  • Maximum filling of vacancies in the same cycle
  • Merit-based and preference-based allocation
  • Increased transparency in recruitment
  • Better opportunity for deserving candidates
  • Reduced vacancy carry-forward

When Will SSC Release the SOP?

SSC has informed that a detailed Standard Operating Procedure will be issued soon. The SOP will outline:

  • Complete procedure
  • Timelines
  • Rules and regulations
  • Technical and administrative guidelines

Candidates are advised to stay updated through the official SSC website for further notifications regarding the implementation of the Sliding Mechanism.
