UGC Clears Adorn for the Promotion of 1421 M.Phil Degree-Holder Maharashtra Professors

After a long-waited run of the promotion of 1421 Maharashtra M.Phil Professors, UGC (University Grants Commission) has removed the deck of promotion for these professors without a need for the NET/SET degrees. These professors were waiting for the last 25 years in recognition of their academic degrees. This decision has also cleared the confusion of these professors on the senior and selection grades.

According to the State Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, this situation had been pending for a long time.

Before the year 1993, 14th June 2006, and 11th July 2009, the M.Phil degree was a valid degree for the teaching posts. But, the students with M.Phil degree between the years 1994 and 2009 were not considered for the role of professors due to the absence of NET/SET qualification.

Patil has confirmed that this matter was continuously taken up with the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and the UGC officials. This inconsistency and injustice were highlighted by the professors, and the state government requested a one time-relaxation for the rest of the professors. To this request, UGC granted an exemption from the NET/SET eligibility for these 1,421 professors, and allowing them to be considered for the promotions from the date they received M.Phil degrees.

Patil also said that this significant step was taken to give justice to the senior professors, who served the education system for years without getting recognised. He said that the decision now came for the long overdue promotions of these professors on the senior and selection grades.
