UGC to Glorify Young Researchers with ‘PhD Excellence Citation’ Application Extended till 15 April 2025, Click here for more details

The Annual ‘PhD Excellence Citation’ given by the University Grants Commission (UGC) has been extended till 15th April 2025. The Universities interested in providing the names of the researchers can give them on the official website at phdexcellence.ugc.ac.in. Formerly, the last date to apply was 31st March 2025. UGC extended the deadline in response to several requests from Universities across India.

UGC asked for nominations in the ‘PhD Excellence Citation’ starting 1st January 2025. But, now the deadline for application submission is 15.04.2025, so the Universities must submit their nominations on or before 15th April 2025 on the official website. UGC has started this PhD Excellence Citation in order to inspire more students in pursuing their career in research. It is one of the ways in which the core goal of NEP (National Education Policy) can be achieved.

Selection Process for PhD Excellence Citation

The process for evaluation in getting a PhD Excellence Citation has two levels of evaluation:

• University-Screening Committee: Every participating university will consist of a screening committee that will select the students from five eligible streams. The screening will be held on the basis of eight criteria.
• UGC-Selection Committee: After the screening of candidates a list of students would be sent to the UGC. Here, five selection committees will be selecting 2 candidates, each for every stream.

UGC has decided to honor 10 researchers each year. Two candidates from each stream would be selected by UGC for the Citation. The annual citation ceremony will be held every year on 5 September (Teacher’s Day).
