No, M.Tech via distance mode is invalid. But there are working professionals who can’t apply for the M.tech Regular program. Thus, there are esteemed universities that are offering the M.Tech for Working Professionals to upgrade their skills. Generally, a hybrid mode of education is used to impart the education. Live sessions are conducted online but students have to visit the campus for labs. Lectures are delivered on weekends and in the evenings so that working professionals can also attend the classes without compromising their professional commitments. Moreover, these programs are approved by UGC.AICTE or provided by reputed institutes/ colleges.

No, in India an MTech cannot be a distance education course. As per the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Distance Education Bureau (DEB) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), MTech course is not recognized in distance education and it should be taken in regular or full-time mode only. This is as a result of the fact that MTech entails a lot of practical and laboratory sessions that cannot be well administered in distance learning. The distance MTech programs have any claims of validity in India, which are not accepted by these regulatory bodies.
There are however a few institutes which are providing online or work integrated MTech at a special fee structure to the working professionals, although this is not the traditional distance education and these are run with very high standards usually with the company sponsoring the candidate and the candidate being actively involved in company level projects. Before enrolling into any such program always check with the recognition and approval status of the program.
