Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) offers a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program to assist students in building a strong core professional career in the educational domain. The PhD program at IGNOU is a doctoral degree program that offers extensive research opportunities to students.
The duration of the IGNOU PhD program is 3 years but the university offers a leverage of additional 3 years and allows students to complete the program in a maximum of 6 years. The candidates are allotted a center by IGNOU to prepare for the PhD program and are required to visit there for physical classes but an online DBA (Doctorate in Business Administration) is a fully flexible and online learning program. An online DBA does not require any physical contact classes and can be done virtually as well.

Who Can Apply?
Interested candidates, willing to enroll in a Ph.D. program offered at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) are required to fulfill the below mentioned eligibility criteria and admission requirements of the program:
- A candidate must have completed a master's degree with a 10+2+3 pattern education qualification from a valid and recognized university.
- A candidate with a 4 year/8 semester bachelor's degree with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate is also eligible to apply for the Ph.D. program at IGNOU.
- Candidates with qualifications in professional courses like CA, ICWA, and CS can also apply.
- IGNOU conducts an entrance examination for the PhD program that is mandatory to qualify.
- The applicant with a valid score in GATE, GRE, GMAT, and JRF (UGC/CSIR) or CAT examination is exempted from the entrance examination for the IGNOU PhD program.
Note:
- Students from EWS, SC, ST, NC-OBC, and PwD categories are entitled to a 5% relaxation of marks.
- 5% of seats are reserved for Persons with Disabilities.
- It is mandatory for students to clear the interview and entrance examination.

IGNOU EMI Details
IGNOU Online offers the option of Credit Card/Debit card/Net Banking in its fee payment options but does not provide you a “No Cost EMI” option as of now for any of the online courses.
IGNOU Admission Process
Candidates interested in enrolling in a PhD program offered at IGNOU must follow the steps mentioned below.
Step 1: Qualify for the eligibility criteria and admission requirements of the IGNOU PhD program.
Step 2: Visit the official website of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and online apply for the program.
Step 3: Appear for the entrance examination conducted by IGNOU for PhD program, students with a valid score in GATE, GRE, GMAT, and JRF (UGC/CSIR) or CAT are exempted from this step.
Step 4: Appear for the personal interview round and qualify it. The interview has 3 major components i.e. 40% Research Methodology, 40% Subject domain, and 20% of Communication Skills.
Step 5: Admission for PhD program is based upon merit, the merit is calculated by culminating the performance in the entrance and interview session.
Step 6: Students who fall under the merit are sent their offer letters after they pay their program fee.
