XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) is an entrance test to business schools in India, and is said to be moderately to highly challenging. It is not only the question of what you know, but also of how you are able to think things out and how they are able to manage your time. There are varied sections in the exam, and each tests a different skill. The most difficult OMR series is the Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation (QA & DI), which comprises complex math questions, which are related to arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data sets and need many calculations to solve. Then there is Verbal and Logical Reasoning (VALR) part with reading comprehension texts, vocabulary, and logical riddles part of it, some reading components of it, such as poems, may be quite puzzling.
The third significant section is Decision Making (DM), where you will be provided with real-life situations and where you have to select the most reasonable solution. Part of these questions are unclear to some extent, and thus, you must think. General facts and questions on current affairs are provided under the General Knowledge (GK) section. You do not have to answer a large number of questions to obtain a high percentile, but you must be correct in what you answer. As an example, scoring 28 to 33 questions correctly may earn you about 95 percentile.
It is of great help to study previous XAT question papers as you get to have an idea of the questions to be asked and how to estimate your weak and strong points. Proper time management is important too, particularly in the QA & DI section, as it may be time-consuming. When you target the top colleges like XLRI, then the cutoff in the Business Management course is approximately 94-96 percentile and 92-93 percentile in the HR course. Similarly, during the last few years, as in XAT 2024, the paper was on the tough side, especially when it came to math, whereas XAT 2022 was easier, but a surprise essay slot was there. That is why proper preparation and intelligent rehearsing can indeed give you a better opportunity.
XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) happens to be a renowned national examination that students strive to include in their label as they embark to join the best colleges in India that offer MBA as one of their programs. The exam structure and marking system are what distinguish XAT from other tests. It is a computer-based exam that takes 3 hours (180 minutes), and it gauges your ability to make decisions, read and reason, do simple math and data manipulation, as well as general knowledge.
Approximately 95 multiple-choice questions to face. You earn 1 mark on every correct answer. However, there is a negative marking of -0.25 marks in case you answer one of the questions incorrectly. In case you miss 8 questions or above, you will be penalized 0.10 marks per only one additional question missed. But the General Knowledge section is an exception, and here, there is no negative marking, and your GK score does not get included in the final output. Therefore, work on it, but do not worry about it. Moreover, there are no essays anymore, and one is free to concentrate on the main portions.
