The Master's Degree in Sanskrit (M.A.) is an advanced degree lasting for 2 full years divided into 4 semesters and focuses on increasing the student's level of expertise in this ancient language's grammar, literary works, philosophical ideas, cultural aspects, etc. The M.A. builds off the knowledge trained during the undergraduate course while at the same time encouraging the student to develop their understanding through intensive readings of classic texts, including the Vedic Samhitas, Classical Durga Aarti, Chandhika Devi, Kalidasa, Mritshakataka, Ashtadhyayi text books, and Panini Mahabhashya, Vyakarana Siddhantakaumudi, etc.

Accordingly, the syllabus for this degree offers a comprehensive understanding of Sanskrit literature and culture. The First Semester will include introductory Philology, Nirukta, and Sahityadarpana, while Semesters 2 – 4 will provide study of the Kavyashastra, Alankara, and Dhvanyaloka and electives available in either Vedanta, Nyaya-Vaisheshika, Mimamsa, or Jyotisha for interdisciplinary study.

To be eligible to apply to the M.A., prospective students must possess an undergraduate (bachelor's) degree with Sanskrit as their Major or Honours subject and a mark of 50% – 55% minimum. Admission will be available to applicants based on both Merit List and Entrance Exam that will assess proficiency in written and spoken Sanskrit, written comprehension and the ability to do Analytical Thinking about texts. The courses will include Lecture, Seminar, Textual Recitation-Persuasive Writing in Devanagari Script, Translation Work, and Research Projects and will frequently be conducted in the Sanskrit Language.
