The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and the National Commission for Women (NCW) have launched three new micro-credential courses focused on women’s safety, leadership and gender awareness. The collaboration agreement was basically signed on the 14th August, 2026, with an aim. The aim is to strengthen women by awaring them avout the issues that might affect them, give them practical learning, and capacity building around these issues.

The courses are designed to provide learners with knowledge that can be applied in personal, professional and workplace settings.

IGNOU-NCW Micro-Credential Courses

The three courses cover different aspects of gender equality, workplace safety and women’s participation:

Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH)

Workplace safety and prevention of sexual harassment

Women’s Leadership Capacity Building and Workshop Behaviour

Leadership skills and professional participation

Gender Sensitisation: Society and Culture

Gender issues from social and cultural perspectives

NCW Chairperson Vijaya K Rahatkar said the programmes should remain practical and learner-focused so that the knowledge gained can be applied in everyday life and workplaces.

IGNOU Vice Chancellor Uma Kanjilal highlighted the need to move beyond awareness towards capacity building and behavioural change.

IGNOU-NCW Collaboration: What Will It Cover?

The partnership will also focus on areas including:

  • Legal and constitutional awareness
  • Women’s empowerment
  • Digital and cyber safety
  • Leadership development
  • Gender sensitisation

IGNOU will be responsible for the academic structure, curriculum development, digital hosting, learner support and certification. NCW will contribute thematic content, identify priority areas and support outreach activities. Furthermore, the collaboration may be expanded in the future to cover areas such as domestic violence, legal literacy, cyber and AI safety, mental health, leadership and safe migration.
