IIT Madras Tops the Overall Category Again in NIRF 2025 Rankings

With the release of the NIRF 2025 Rankings by the Education Ministry on September 4, 2025, everyone is discussing the best universities in India. In that chaos, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has calmly retained its number one position within the Overall category. From its founding year in 1959, the institution has elevated its legacy through excellence in technical education and research, the promotion of entrepreneurship and innovation, and robust placement facilities. 

NIRF is one of the most trusted frameworks for assessing higher education in the country. It helps parents, students, and policymakers make informed choices about their educational paths. NIRF evaluates institutions on 5 major parameters:

• Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR)
• Research & Professional Practice (RPC)
• Outreach & Inclusivity (OI)
• Graduation Outcome (GO)
• Perception

All of these parameters are defined under the guidance of a core committee set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). Every institution in the NIRF rankings is evaluated on these parameters and is then ranked based on its overall score.
