As a student, we always aspire to be part of the best colleges or universities in the country. Well, it is an important decision in everyone’s life that is not just limited to the academic aspects. A college/institution/university shapes our personality & enhances our creative thinking abilities. Apart from standard quality education, the positive environment of the universities or institutions, highly qualified faculty members, placement rate, industry recognition, & many other similar factors create a powerful impact on our professional journeys.
With a diversified choice range in colleges or universities, the task to choose the best one has become even more complicated. In this article, we have tried to make this tedious task a bit simpler for you by providing the lists of top colleges, institutions, universities, & others as per the NIRF 2023 rankings.
NIRF or National Institutional Ranking Framework is a ranking methodology used to rank higher education institutions in India under the guidelines of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. This ranking framework was launched in the country in 2015. The core committee of NIRF deciding the rankings of institutions in different prospects constitutes members of some elite institutions or universities like Delhi University, EFL University, Central University of Gujarat, JNU, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, NIT Tiruchirappalli, NIT Warangal, IIIT&M Gwalior, IISER Bhopal, SPA Delhi, NAAC, and NBA.
NIRF ranking is done based on the operational areas of institutions which include 11 major categories of overall, colleges, universities, engineering, management, law, medical, pharmacy, architecture, research, and dental. The ranking used by this framework is based on some important parameters like research, resources, and stakeholder perception.
As per the recommendation of the core committee of NIRF, the institutions were categorized into 2 sub-categories as Category A & Category B. Category A covers up al the national institutions that are set up by State Universities, Acts of Parliament, Private Universities, Deemed-to-be Universities, and other autonomous institutions. On the other hand, Category B has all the institutions that are affiliated with other universities & do not hold an “autonomous” designation.
The NIRF ranking in different categories is based on a set of parameters decided by the core committee of the ranking framework. A minimum weightage has been assigned to each parameter that must be secured by universities/institutions to hold a place in this ranking system. Institutions are evaluated out of a total score of 100 assigned to each parameter.
Among the 11 categories of NIRF, parameters & their weightage for universities, engineering, management, law, medical, pharmacy, architecture, research, and dental categories are tabulated below.
