UGC Invites Applications from HEIs for ODL and Online Programme Recognition 2026-27

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has invited applications from eligible Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) seeking recognition to offer programmes through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and/or online mode for the 2026-27 academic year. This recognition process will cover academic sessions starting January-February 2027 and onwards.

Eligible institutions can apply through the UGC Distance Education Bureau (DEB) portal at deb.ugc.ac.in. The invitation has been issued under Regulation 3(A) and Regulation 3(B)(b) of the UGC (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020.

UGC Opens Recognition Process for ODL and Online Programmes

This notice is aimed at higher educational institutions planning to offer academic programmes through ODL or online modes starting the January-February 2027 session. UGC recognition is a mandatory requirement for HEIs looking to offer programmes through these modes, and institutions must complete the prescribed application process while meeting the standards laid out under the applicable UGC regulations and their amendments. The entire process will be conducted online via the DEB portal.

2. Click on the link for HEI registration under the recognition process
3. Enter the institution's required details carefully
4. Complete and submit the application form
