Yes, you can take lateral entry into the third year of a BA program at IGNOU under certain circumstances. IGNOU allows students to transfer credits from their previous regular degree programs to their new program, provided that the subjects and coursework align with their current study area.
You will need to submit the necessary documentation from your previous institution, along with your application for admission to the BA program at IGNOU. It’s crucial to check with the university’s guidelines and ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria for the specific courses you wish to enter.
I recommend reaching out to IGNOU’s admissions office or visiting their official website for detailed information on the process and requirements. This will help ensure a smooth transition from your current program to IGNOU. We hope this information is useful for you and clears your doubts if you still have any queries you can ask here.

With the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Credit Framework, the ability of students to transfer institutions and programs has been increased through standardised credit transfer provisions. In case, you would like to switch to the IGNOU-BA program, instead of getting a regular degree program, you may not be able to enter the 3rd year program and you may only be able to enter at the stage where you have not completed the required qualification, but can be transferred because of the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC ).
A student can transfer the previous credits and obtain the benefit of the courses passed by increasing the number of credits under the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) but the credits must be equivalent to the kind of qualification the suspension course requires This will not only enable you to not do the same course work twice and go on to further study without having to waste previous years of schooling but you will still have to formally apply to IGNOU to do their degree program and take any outstanding course credits as required in their guidelines in order to be awarded your degree
