Government Engineering College, Jagdalpur, is located in the tribal heartland of Bastar, Chhattisgarh. The college was established in 1983 to bring quality technical education to the region for those learners who are interested in studying engineering. It is aiming to provide a value-based engineering education program to impart technical knowledge with a foundation learning of the program, enabling students to tackle the challenges of the new age. Besides, it focuses on developing the ethical and social values among learners so they can work towards sustainable development. 

The campus is spread over 69 acres that features well-structured academic buildings for multiple engineering disciplines, workshops, laboratories, a large library, hostels (boys & girls), sports facilities, Wi-Fi/internet infrastructure, and residential quarters for faculty/staff. Government Engineering College Jagdalpur has produced thousands of graduates who are contributing to industry, technology, and development across India. 

The college is affiliated with Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekanand Technical University (CSVTU), the institute offers six undergraduate engineering programs and two postgraduate courses. The journey of the GEC started with just 20 seats in Civil Engineering, which expanded its services by offering the branches such as Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & IT, and Electrical Engineering. In addition to that, the Structural Engineering and Thermal Engineering disciplines are provided for those candidates who are interested in a postgraduate program. 

Among other programs, B.Tech Lateral Entry is also provided by the college for candidates who have completed a polytechnic diploma and B.Sc. (studied Mathematics). To upgrade the skills, learners are given the required exposure to the labs and enough project work, because learning is industry-oriented.
