Bachelor of Arts (General) (BAG English) is a language-specific program offered through ODL (Open and Distance Learning) mode at IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) under the School of Humanities (SOH). BAG English was launched at the university under the choice-based credit system with a blend of disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and skill-oriented courses. The program is focused on building up the knowledge base among the students and imparting education to help them analyze the different aspects of humanities, sciences, and social sciences. The curriculum of the program is updated and revised according to the latest education policy, which helps the students realize critical understanding and reasoning thinking capabilities and provides skill-based and compatible candidates to the industry. The syllabus of the program includes Individual and Society, English Communication Skills, British Literature, English in Daily Life, Selections from Indian Writings: Cultural Diversity, Writing, Study Skills, etc.
The university offers an open and flexible learning environment and offers them highly accessible study material, which students can access at any point of time 24/7 as per their preference and comfort. The duration of the program is 3 years, but the university offers a little leverage of an additional 3 years to the students and allows them to complete their program in 6 years. IGNOU is the largest open university and the first Indian open university in India that is accredited with an “A++” grade by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council).
