The Indian Institute of Management Kashipur is a second-generation IIM set up by the Government of Indian in 2011. It is located in Kashipur, Uttarakhand. As per the NIRF ranking of 2025, the IIM Kashipur has been ranked 23rd in the management category.
The Exec-PhD programme is a part-time doctoral programme aimed at developing scholars' abilities to identify research gaps across a variety of management areas and to conduct quality research. The eligibility criteria for the Exec-PhD program at IIM Kashipur are as follows-
Educational Qualifications
- Those who hold a master’s degree in any discipline with at least 60% of marks.
- Individuals having a five-year integrated master's degree program in any discipline with at least 60%, obtained after higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent.
- Those having a professional qualification, such as CA, CMA, CS, which is recognized by UGC/AICTE/AIU, with at least 60% marks or equivalent grade point average
- Individuals having a four-year bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least 60% can also apply for the program.
Work Experience
Individuals applying for the Exec-PhD program must have a minimum of 5 years of full-time working experience.
Reservations
IIM Kashipur provides reservations to individuals belonging to reserved categories.
Entrance examination
The individuals are selected through qualifying the entrance examination, such as UGC/CSIR NET, GATE, GMAT, GRE, CAT, or IIMB Test, and depending on the specialization they have selected.

CIS and Independent Research Projects
The aim of both the CIS and Independent Research Projects is to enable scholars to understand the research process before they begin their dissertations. As a result, scholars will need to complete two CIS projects: CIS-1 (March to the end of June in Year 1) and CIS-2 (January to May in Year 2).
Comprehensive Examination
After finishing the coursework, scholars will take the Comprehensive Exam (CE) in an offline format. The CE will be a comprehensive, organized assessment of the completed courses. The CE must be completed within three months of coursework grades being posted and all grading requirements completed, but in no event longer than four months.
- The primary emphasis of the CE is to assess the scholar's readiness to proceed with independent research. The exam will assess:
- The scholar's conceptual understanding of the courses taught and the ability to weave broader knowledge.
- The scholar's ability to synthesize existing research and articulate holes in their field of interest.
- The scholar's understanding of relevant research methodologies in their chosen field of inquiry.
Thesis Work
On qualifying the comprehensive examination, the scholars will start working on their thesis under the guidance of the Thesis Advisory Committee (TAC). The thesis will be evaluated by a panel of experts outside the institute.
Progress Report
The scholar should submit the progress report and presentation every four months.
IIM Kashipur Exec-PhD in Management Examination Pattern
The examination pattern typically comprises online tests, proctored exams, study material, assessment and grading, pass criteria, and retake rules. The tests are given online using a digital platform and include a variety of questions. To preserve integrity, proctoring may be used. Participants are given study materials, and tests are graded by IIM Kashipur staff or designated evaluators. There may be a minimum pass condition, as well as retake policies.
