IIM Raipur PhD

The eligibility criteria for a PhD at the Indian Institute of Management are - 

• Individuals having a master's degree/PGP from IIM or equivalent in any discipline with a minimum aggregate of 55%
• Professional qualifications such as ICWA/CA with a degree and CS with a B.Com degree with an aggregate of 60%. 
• Those having a 4-year bachelor's degree with a minimum CGPA of 6.5 out of 10 or equivalent. 
• Those having a five-year integrated master's degree in Engineering with at least 60% aggregate marks. 

IIM Raipur is a prestigious Indian business school that provides full-time postgraduate management programs and one year Executive Post Graduate Program. Accordingly, the institute may have particular EMI alternatives that students can use, subject to relevant restrictions and limitations.

The Ph.D. program offered at the IIM Raipur typically takes four years, where the first two years involve fairly intense courses. In the first year, students learn the basic principles of management and ways of analysis. The doctoral program structure at IIM Raipur is divided into three phases- 

Phase 1: Fundamentals of Management 

This phase usually finishes in the first year of study. The objective of this phase is to help research scholars establish a strong groundwork in general management and to develop a broad understanding of their specialization. In the first year, while all scholars will take common courses from the Post-Graduate Programme regardless of their area of specialization, there will be compulsory common courses in Economics and Public Policy, Finance and Accounting, Humanities and Liberal Arts, Information Systems, Marketing, Operations and Quantitative Methods, and Strategy and Entrepreneurship.

At the end of the first year, research scholars execute a summer research project either with a faculty adviser or in an external organization. The completion of all courses and summer projects with the required academic standards marks the conclusion of Phase I. Research scholars must meet some minimum standards across all courses, with additional expectations in some courses specific to the specialization.

Phase 2: Specialization 

In the second year, research scholars take advanced courses in their chosen specialization and related fields to gain deeper knowledge. They also complete a set of compulsory Ph.D. courses designed to build teaching and research skills, along with the ability to connect and apply their learning. During this phase, scholars work closely with faculty members and begin exploring potential research topics in their area of interest.

The PhD in management at IIM Raipur offers specializations in eight areas:

• Economics & Public Policy, Finance & Accounting, Human Resource Management & Organizational Behaviour, Humanities & Liberal Arts, Information Systems, Marketing Management, Operations & Quantitative Methods, Strategy & Entrepreneurship

After completing the Phase II courses, scholars take a comprehensive exam at the beginning of the third year. This exam evaluates whether they have achieved a solid understanding of their chosen specialization, as per the requirements set by each academic area.

Phase 3: Doctoral Dissertation 

The dissertation provides people who aspire to be research scholars with an opportunity to undertake original research on their chosen topic and provide a significant contribution to knowledge in the field of management. Research remains central to the Ph.D. training at IIM Raipur, and scholars are encouraged to participate in research from the outset.

Phase III begins in the third year, when the Thesis Advisory Committee (TAC) is established. Scholars will identify faculty who share an interest in their research topic area and develop dissertation topics, and eventually obtain a thesis advisor. The thesis advisor will guide the scholar through the research process and chair the TAC.

Once a topic is determined, the scholar selects a proposal to prepare, which will then be publicly presented for approval of the TAC. From that point, the scholar will work with the supervisor until the dissertation is prepared. Upon completion, the scholar will present their dissertation in a seminar setting and defend it in front of the Thesis Examination Committee (TEC).

Even though formal coursework has ended in Phase II, scholars will continue taking advanced coursework relevant to their research in Phase III.
