• An applicant desirous of seeking admission to the Doctoral Programme in Management (PhD) at the Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli must satisfy the following eligibility criteria:

• Must hold a Master’s degree in any discipline with at least 60% marks (or equivalent) after completing a Bachelor’s degree of at least three years’ duration.
• Alternatively, a two-year Postgraduate Diploma with 60% marks (or equivalent) is acceptable.​
• Those who already hold a PGDM (full-time, 2-year MBA program) from any IIM, or a PGPBM from IIM Trichy (with CGPA above 2.6/4.33 or equivalent), are exempted from eligibility test scores.
• The candidate should have passed 10th and 12th standard (Class 10 and 12) with at least 60% marks (or equivalent).
• Must submit valid scores in one of these entrance exams: CAT, GMAT, GRE, GATE, IIMB Test, or UGC-JRF.​

• Only two fields of specialisation may be applied to when applying to the PhD-programme.
