IIT Bombay Fees for the Undergraduate Programs Including B.Tech
The undergraduate programs provided at IIT Bombay are a set of advanced foundation-based courses that depend on what kind of Bachelor’s degrees the student has taken such as B.Tech, B.S., and B.Des. IIT Bombay provides postgraduate programs that are designed to specialize in a subdomain of a major domain. - B.Sc./B.Com. and M.B.A. from SJMSOM (Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management) OR
- M.E./M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Sc. Tech (Engg) or equivalent OR
- M.B.B.S. With one year internship with GATE or AIIMS/MCI for MD/MS (For Medical graduates) OR
- B.E./B.Tech. and M.B.A. from SJMSOM
- Total period of Fellowship: 5 years
- Fellowship Amount:
- For the first two years: INR 37K per month
- For the remaining years: INR 42K per month (Will be received if showed satisfactory performance in progress seminar)

- TA Fellowship during M.Tech/M.Phil: INR 12,400 per month will be received till the date of the successful presentation of the research proposal or the end of the 4th semester.
- (a) TA Fellowship during Ph.D: INR 37K per month will be received from the date of the research proposal to the end of the third year. (b) RA Fellowship during Ph.D: INR 42K per month from the date of research proposal to the end of the third year.
- For the remaining years at an enhanced rate:

- Meant to empower faculty members at institutions of degree level and diploma level.
- Scholarship: INR 15K per month.
- Contingency: INR 15K per annum.
(iv) CSIR Fellowship for Ph.D students:
- Provided by CSIR (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research).
- Maximum duration: 5 years
- Amount to be received during Junior Fellowship: INR 37K per month (duration: two years)
- Amount to be received during Senior Fellowship: INR 42K per month (duration: three years)
- Contingency to be received: INR 20K per annum.
(v) CSIR SPMF (Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Fellowship):
- Provided by CSIR to High Scorers of the CSIR-UGC JRF (NET).
- This is meant to provide researchers who are talented and look forward to carrying out cutting-edge research and discovering stupendous results in scientific research.
- Maximum Period: 5 years.
- Amount to be received during Junior Fellowship: INR 43K per month (for 2 years)
- Amount to be received during Senior Fellowship: INR 50K per month (for the next 3 years)
- Contingency: INR 70K per annum.
(vi) UGC Fellowship (Humanities & Social Sciences and Engineering & Technology):

- M.A. by Research students receive TA.

- Students with a 3-year Bachelor’s degree will receive the assistantship during the second year of the program.
- Students with a 4 years Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s degree will receive the assistantship during both years.
- The student receives a fellowship amount of INR 12,400 per month.
(v)Teaching Assistantship for Dual Degree programs that are (B.Tech+M.Tech), IDDDP, and (B.Des.+M.Des.):
- Provided in 5th year to students studying in (B.Tech+M.Tech), IDDDP, and (B.Des.+M.Des.).

At the levels of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees, IIT Bombay strives to provide students in need with scholarships that are meant to support their academic & career goals.
Undergraduate Scholarships
Candidates pursuing undergraduate courses at IIT Bombay need a kickstart to their ambitions and goals they have planned to scale where money should not be an obstacle to realize their dreams.
(i) Institute Scholarships
The Institute of IIT Bombay provides scholarships for students to prevent the student’s deprivation of high-quality education and encourage learning without financial constraints.

Merit cum Means Scholarship:
- This scholarship is awarded to 25%(maximum) of the total undergraduate students' intake.
- Consideration of academic merit and means takes place when deciding which student will be eligible for the scholarship.
- Students who have taken up dual degree programs such as(B.Tech+M.Tech) will receive scholarships till the fourth year
- Merit parameters: For the first year:
- For students enrolled in a dual degree (B.Tech+M.Tech), B.Tech, and B.S., their JEE (Advanced) rank will be used to determine their merit.
- Students enrolled in B.Des, their UCEED rank will be considered to determine the merit aspect of the scholarship.
- For the remaining years, the student’s academic performance each year will be considered for the continuance of the scholarship.
- Means parameters:
- The parental income of the student is taken into consideration.
- Based on the latest complete financial year which is the financial year 2023-24, the parental income of that year will be considered.
- The parental income up to & below INR 5 Lakhs will be considered.
- For each income limit, there are separate provisions when it comes to the scholarship. Along with that, there is a special scholarship for students who are women.
- For students with parental income up to INR 1 Lakh:
- For Women:
- These women are exempted from payment of tuition fees.
- These students will be awarded a scholarship of INR 40K per year.
- An additional scholarship of INR 10K per year will also be awarded as a Women Merit Scholarship.
- For Other Students
- These students are exempted from paying the tuition fees.
- These students will receive a scholarship of INR 40K per year.
- For Women:
- For students whose parental income is between 1 Lakh and 3 Lakh:
- For Women:
- These students don’t have to pay the tuition fees.
- A scholarship of INR 30K per year is provided for these students.
- An additional scholarship of INR 10K per year is awarded as a Women Merit Scholarship.
- For other students:
- These students don’t have to pay the tuition fees.
- A scholarship of INR 30K per year is provided for these students.
- For Women:
- For students whose parental income is between INR 3 Lakhs and INR 5 Lakhs
- For Women:
- These students don’t have to pay the tuition fees.
- A scholarship of INR 20K per year is provided for these students.
- An additional scholarship of INR 10K per year is awarded as a Women Merit Scholarship.
- For other students:
- These students don’t have to pay the tuition fees.
- A scholarship of INR 20K per year is provided for these students.
- For Women:
(ii) Facilities of Free Messing for SC/ST category students:
- For SC/ST students. These categories of students are exempted from paying tuition fees.
- For students whose parental income lies up to & below 5 Lakhs.
- For students who are pursuing B.Tech., Dual Degree (B.Tech. + M.Tech.), B.S. and B.Des. Programme at IIT Bombay.
- For women students:
- These students are exempted from paying tuition fees.
- These students will receive a free messing facility based on the basic menu.
- The student doesn’t have to pay hostel room rent.
- These students receive a woman merit scholarship of INR 10K per year.
- These students get a pocket allowance of INR 500 per month. (payable for 10 months in each academic year)
- For Other Students:
- These students are exempted from paying tuition fees.
- These students will receive a free messing facility based on the basic menu.
- These students get a pocket allowance of INR 500 per month. (payable for 10 months in each academic year)
- The student doesn’t have to pay hostel room rent.
(iii) Remission of Fees:
- For students who have taken up programs like Dual Degree (B.Tech+M.Tech), B.Tech., and B.Des..
- For students whose gross parental income is less than INR 5 Lakhs.
- Remission of tuition fees:
- Full Remission of tuition fees: For students whose parental income lies below 1 Lakh per annum.
- 2/3rd remission of tuition fees: For students whose parental income lies between INR 1 Lakh per annum and INR 5 Lakh per annum.
(iv) Named Scholarships:
- Provided by Office of the Dean Alumni & Corporate Relations.
- These named scholarships are meant for UG students and are endowed by the alumni of the institute and other well-wishers.
- Based on Merit and Means criteria for selecting the awardees of the scholarship.
- For Merit, the following criteria are taken into consideration:
- For the first year: The JEE Advanced All India Rank is considered for the students who have taken up one of these programs- B.Tech., Dual Degree (B.Tech. + M.Tech.), and B.S. The UCEED rank will be considered for B.Des students.
- For the remaining years the student’s academic performance will decide the continuity of the scholarship. (Dual degree students will receive scholarships till 4th year)
- For Means, the student’s parental income should lie below INR 5 Lakhs in the latest completed financial year.
(v) National Scholarships (All States):
- Students receive this from their respective states.
- The student gets to apply via IIT Bombay.
- Each year, the student has to submit a progress report each academic year, to be considered for continuation of the scholarship.
(vi) National Talent Search Scholarship
- The students who have cleared the NTSE (National Talent Search Examination) are provided with a scholarship during 10+2, undergraduate level, and post-graduate level if the student maintains academic performance each year.
- To receive continuously, the student has to submit a form issued by NCERT to the academic section of IIT Bombay at the start of each academic year.
2. Postgraduate Scholarships
Students pursuing specialized domains as postgraduate degrees are meant to make a niche for themselves to be experts in their respective domains. While pursuing these degrees, it is essential to not have financial issues as postgraduate programs are a crucial career-defining junction of a student’s career.
(i) Institute Scholarships for M.Sc students
These are the scholarships provided by the institute as an initiative to nurture the students every step of the way from finance to academic aspects of the student life.

Institute Merit-Cum-Means Scholarship
- This scholarship is awarded to a maximum of 25% of the students who have joined the M.Sc program.
- The Merit part of this scholarship is based on the first year of the program, where the student’s JAM rank will be considered for the awarding of the scholarship. For the remaining years, the continuity will depend on the student’s academic performance during the program.
- The Means aspect of the scholarship is based on the parental income of the student lying below INR 5 Lakhs per annum.
- Students with parental income below INR Lakhs 5 Lakh are exempted from paying the tuition fees.
- The scholarship amounts for different income levels are given below:
- Students with parental income below INR 1 Lakh, the student gets a scholarship of INR 40K per year.
- Students with parental income between INR 1 Lakh and INR 3 Lakhs, get a scholarship of INR 30K per year.
- Students with parental income between INR 3 Lakhs and INR 5 Lakhs, get a scholarship of INR 20K per year.

Free Messing for SC/ST Students
- Students belonging to the SC/ST category and also eligible, don’t have to pay for the mess facilities.
- The students availing of this facility have a parental income that lies below INR 5 Lakhs.
- These students are also exempted from paying the tuition fees.
- These students get free messing facilities for the basic food menu.
- A pocket allowance of INR 500 per month will be given to these students
- The students under this scheme don’t have to pay the hostel room rent.
(ii) Government Scholarships for M.Sc Students

- Provided to M.Sc students.
- Selection is done by NBHM.
- Scholarship amount: INR 6K per month.

Forbes Marshall Scholarship
- Selection Procedure: The selection of the awardee happens through a selection session where an interview(at the beginning of 1st semester is conducted by IIT Bombay’s Energy Systems & Engineering department and Forbes Marshalls.
- Scholarship received by the eligible student:
- Scholarship amount: INR 20K per month
- Reimbursement of tuition fees paid by the student each semester.
- Contingency: INR 15K per month

- This scholarship applies only to students in the Biosciences and Bioengineering Department.
- A scholarship amount of INR 2K per month in addition to TA, is provided.

DAE (DGFS)(BRNS) (Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences) Scholarship
- Scholarship Amount: INR 55K per month
- Selection Procedure: Selection is carried out at the beginning of the first semester with the DAE's consent in BARC.
- Under this scholarship, the tuition fee paid by the student is reimbursed.
- The contingency provided is worth INR 40K per year

Ministry of Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation Scholarship
- Selection procedure: Direct Selection takes place at the time of admission.
- Scholarship amount: INR 4K per month plus paying for exam fees.

3. Doctoral Scholarships
Every year a major number of students pursue doctoral degrees such as Ph.D, etc. Carrying out cutting-edge research is fostered under a conducive environment that encourages studying, learning, and researching the knowledge body leading to discoveries that redefine their respective domains. At IIT Bombay, researchers need to be promoted because of their dedication to the pursuit of discoveries that can help the field advance towards progress and make a difference in evolving as learners, teachers, and researchers.
(i) Private Scholarships for Ph.D students
These Scholarships are provided by private organizations as a contribution towards supporting dedicated researchers.
(a) SJM School of Management Endowment Scholarship
- This scholarship is awarded as per institute procedures.
- Scholarship Amount:
- For the first two years, the student will receive INR 28K per month.
- Based on the assessment of the recommendation of RPC, the scholarship amount will be enhanced to INR 31K per month.
- Duration: 5 years or till the submission of thesis & synopsis.
- Based on the CPI/Progress Seminar performance, the scholarship to be given will be determined.
- Each year, the scholarship can be renewed.
(b) IITB Monash Scholarship
- This scholarship is provided by Monash University in collaboration with IIT Bombay.
- Scholarship amount:
- For the first two years: INR 41K per month
- The next two years: INR 46K per month.
(c) EATON Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Scholarship
- Selection Procedure: This will be carried out by the student’s respective department.
- Scholarship amount:
- For the first two years: INR 30K per month
- The next two years: INR 35K per month
- Within a period of 4 years, the student gets a grant of INR 1.5 Lakhs for attending a national/international conference.
(d) SERB (Purdue Visiting Doctoral Fellowship)
- Offered by Purdue University
- The selection of awardees happened through the respective department.
- Scholarship Amount: USD 2K per month
- Duration of receiving scholarship: 12 months
- Contingency Grant: INR 60K per annum
- The student also receives the onward journey fair.
(ii) Government Scholarships for Ph.D. Students
In order to promote research among Indian Universities leading to becoming a knowledge center of high eminence, the Government of India encourages research pursuits. This is meant to empower the research community to bring advancements in the field of research.
(a) NBHM (National Board of Higher Mathematics) Scholarship
- Scholarship awarded to students:
- INR 37K per month for the first two years.
- After 2 years, the student receives a scholarship enhanced to INR 42K per month.
- The selection process is done through NBHM directly.
- Contingency Grant: INR 20K per annum.
(b) DBT- JRF/DBT-SRF (Department of Biotechnology Jr./Sr. Research Fellowship)
- Provided by the Department of Biotechnology of IIT Bombay.
- Scholarship Amount:
- First 2 years: INR 37K per month
- Next three years: INR 42K per month
- Contingency Allowance: INR 30K per annum.
- The student will receive HRA (House Rent Allowance).
(c) DST-INSPIRE Scholarship
- This scholarship is meant for qualified students in one of these: M.Sc./BE./B.Tech./ ME./M.Tech.
- The scholarship amount for the first two years is INR 37K per month.
- For the next three years, the student will receive a scholarship amount of INR 42K per month.
- Contingency: INR 20K per year.
(d) ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) Scholarship
- Provided by ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research).
- Scholarship Amount:
- For the first two years: INR 37K per month
- For the next three years: INR 42K per month
- Contingency Amount: INR 20K per year.
