IIT Madras M.Tech

IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Madras is a premier institute of engineering in India. The institute offers a four-semester M.Tech Program in numerous disciplines and programs provided by different departments to upgrade the knowledge of the students. Learners can enroll for the specialization courses based on their qualifications and interests such as Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Computer Science Engineering to name a few programs from a wide choice of disciplines shared by the institute to enhance the knowledge of learners.

Another advantage of studying engineering form IIT Madras is that students can upgrade their M.Tech program to a PhD. program if they feel so after completing the 2 semesters of M.Tech course and the minimum CGPA must be 8.0 or above to upgrade the postgraduation program to a Ph.D. 

Apart from this, considering the changes in the education system and demand from engineering learners, IIT Madras has introduced a Web-enabled program for working professionals and the program is flexible and can be completed at their own pace. Live classes can be attended by working professionals in the evenings and students can interact with teachers through management systems. 

To enhance the knowledge of learners, the program includes elective subjects, laboratory courses, and projects according to the curriculum as per the discipline to improve the learning experience. To conclude the program, certificates are offered after completion of each course and a postgraduation degree is awarded after the required credits are completed by the students. 

Web-enabled programs are provided in disciplines such as Automotive Technology, Communication system Engineering, VLSI, Information Security, Mathematical Methods for Aerospace Engineers, Aero Dynamics & Aircraft Performance, and Industrial Metallurgy. 

If due to some specific reasons, students can enroll for the IIT Madras regular or web-enabled program, they can enroll for the M.Tech Flexible Timing program offered by various universities to complete their engineering postgraduation degree program.

If working professionals want to register for the web-enabled program, the minimum experience required is mentioned below: 

• Applicants must have completed a B.Tech/BE in the relevant discipline. And the aggregate score must be 6.0 or above. 
• Applicants must have 2 years of work experience in the related field. 

Meritorious students are highly encouraged by the institute as it offers various scholarships and financial assistance to the students. The Institute is giving fee waivers to many students, depending on certain eligibility criteria. The Institute is giving scholarships to various students belonging to certain groups like SC, ST & female students.  Merit-cum-Means scholarships, Institute Notional Prize, Institute free studentship, Dr K Vasanth Rau Scholarships and many more scholarships are offered to the students.

The Examination is done by the institute in online mode. However, this applies only to students enrolled in online degree programs. The institute conducts online examinations through the online platform or LMS. The institute ensures high security and strict monitoring. The institute is also using remote assessment conduction, the students have to complete the examination in a stipulated time frame. Students must have tech devices like computers with good internet connectivity.
