About IIT Roorkee M.Tech Program
IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Roorkee is one of the biggest technical institutes in India, located in Uttrakhand. The institute is considered the top 5 institute for engineering. In other words, it is an institute of national importance in high technological education in engineering for basic and applied research.
IIT Roorkee offers 2 years of M.Tech regular program and the minimum duration of the program is four semesters for full-time candidates which can be extended for six semesters for Part-Time candidates. So, a part-time M.Tech program is 3 years and the credits to be earned per semester are different from the full-time M.Tech program. However, candidates must have two years of working experience in a relevant industry prior to registering for the program. Work experience willn’t be counted before the qualifying degree.

Who Can Apply?
If anyone wants to study M.Tech from IIT Roorkee has to fulfill the criteria mentioned below to register for the program:
- Applicants must have completed their graduation in engineering from an approved university and score at least 60% or more overall.
- Applicants need to apply for the GATE entrance exam. They have to earn the score asked by the institute for M.Tech admission.
- If the applicant is an IIT Graduate and the aggregate score is 80% or a CGPA of 8.0 can sign up for the program without GATE Score.
- IIT Roorkee has a special scheme for female applicants known as the Golden Girl Scheme for Female Applicants. Only First Rank Holder (Gold Medallist) from an IIT/ or institute and university ranked among 50 by NIRF can enroll for the program without the GATE Entrance Exam.
- Applicants are required 2 years of relevant experience in the industry and research labs.
At the time of admission, candidates have to submit the experience certificate, and a letter of employment needs to be attached to the application form. The certificate must have a joining date.

IIT Roorkee M.Tech Program Admission Process
Each degree programme/course offered by the university has its own admissions process and is decided solely by the university. Step 1- Submit your application to IIT Roorkee on Coursera. After you submit your application, IIT Roorkee admissions team will review your application.
Step 2- If your application is found to meet the preliminary eligibility conditions, you will be invited by IIT Roorkee for an interview.
Step 3- After the interview round, if your candidature is found fit for the Executive MBA degree, you will receive an offer of admission from IIT Roorkee.

No, IIT doesn’t provide the Online M.Tech as it is invalid in India. However, there are programs that are flexible and designed for working professionals known as the M.Tech Flexible Timing program. Classes are conducted online and students have to visit the campus for the practical sessions. M.Tech Flexible Timing courses are particularly designed for employees as the program follows the hybrid mode.
IIT doesn’t provide an online engineering postgraduation program for applicants. If anyone wants to study in the M.Tech program, they have to enroll for the regular M.Tech program. I definitely see long term value in this course. The areas that I have never learned like finance, marketing, these are areas which I had zero clue about because I’ve mostly been confined into my cocoon of software and technical work.
