This B.Tech lateral entry course is created for diploma holders, people who pursued a three-year diploma course after the 10th standard can apply for this. 

In the B.Tech lateral entry course, students receive the same quality of education as regular B.Tech students, the major difference is that lateral entry students do not enroll in the first year because they already have a diploma, therefore, they are already aware of the basis of the first year. In this course, students have to visit campus every day to attend classes and mark their attendance, they have to pay the fee for the hostel, bus, mess, etc. like other regular students.

There are a number of students who have a diploma but those students are unable to pursue B.Tech lateral entry because of commitments like occupation. Those people have the zeal to pursue this degree but cannot attend classes on campus every day. So, there is another option for them which is not B.Tech online and B.Tech distance education because it is not approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the University Grants Commission (UGC), and the Supreme Court. 

Instead, there is B.Tech flexible timing also known as B.Tech for working professionals. The degree awarded in both these cases is of regular B.Tech. In both, there are 3 years and 6 semesters of six months each, the examinations are conducted as mid-term exams in the middle of the semester and end-term exams at the end of the semester. During each semester assignments, quizzes, tests, seminars, and practical labs are conducted. 

The eligibility criteria to enroll in the B.Tech lateral entry program from Lovely Professional University are mentioned below:

• Students must be a 10 or 10+2 pass out.
• Students must have completed a three-year diploma in any stream of engineering either after 10 or 10+2 or any equivalent degree i.e. B.Sc. in computer science or BCA.
• Students must have a minimum of 60% of qualifying marks.
• Students have to take the LPUNEST (LPU National Entrance and Scholarship Test) entrance exam, the admission will be based on merit score. 

The eligibility criteria for B.Tech in flexible timing are mentioned below:

• Students must be a 10 + 2 pass out from a recognized board.
• Students must have a 3-year diploma or polytechnic. 
• Students must have a minimum of 60% of qualifying marks.
• If a student does not have a diploma then they must have an equivalent degree i.e. B.Sc. in PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics).
• Some universities also require work experience of 2 to 3 years.
• Students must take the entrance exam conducted by the university.
