NIT Trichy PhD

Before applying for a PhD at the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli, the student must meet its eligibility criteria so that it will become easy for them to apply. The learners who want to apply for a PhD program must check the admission criteria that are highlighted below:

• Applicants must hold a master's degree in the relevant discipline or stream of study from a recognized institution.​
• GEN, General EWS, and OBC-NCL categories require at least 60% aggregate marks or a CGPA of 6.5/10 in both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
• For SC, ST, and PwD categories: at least 55% aggregate marks or a CGPA of 6.0/10 in both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Candidates currently in the final semester of relevant degree programs and expecting the degree award are eligible to apply.
• Admission can also be based on a valid score in national-level exams such as GATE/UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET or the qualification of the institute's PhD entrance test conducted at NIT Trichy.​
• Candidates with postgraduate qualifications from a relevant field may also be considered for some streams only, such as Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.

The National Institute of Technology, Trichy, does not provide any specific information on the EMI option. However, the institute offers both online and offline programs at very reasonable fees.  

The PhD syllabus at NIT Trichy is designed so that every candidate is adequately prepared, both in foundational and advanced topics in their respective research areas. Every PhD scholar needs to complete a set of prescribed coursework within the first year of joining the program. The scholar has to take up four subjects related to his/her area, approved by his/her Doctoral Committee. These subjects help the candidate to build basic knowledge and research skills. The examination patterns vary according to the programs. The institute offers evaluation systems that include regular quizzes, assignments, mid-semester exams, and end-of-semester assessments. Moreover, for online programs, the exams are conducted through the SWAYAM platform, which is a collaboration with NPTEL.
