The School of Engineering, CUSAT, introduced the B.Tech Lateral Entry degree program, a specialized 3-year undergraduate degree engineering program aimed at preparing diploma students to continue their technical studies. This program will enable an eligible candidate to join a third semester of the B.Tech degree directly and continue with their already accomplished foundation in engineering and technology. CUSAT is a reputable institution that is located in Kerala and has been associated with academic excellence, state-of-the-art facilities and industry-oriented coursework work which equip students with an excellent career perspective in the dynamic world of engineering.
School of Engineering provides CUSAT, B.Tech Lateral Entry programs in seven engineering specilizations, such as Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, and Safety and Fire Engineering. Who Can Apply?
In order to qualify for the B.Tech Lateral Entry program of the School of Engineering, CUSAT:
- You need to have successfully completed 3 3-year Diploma in Engineering/Technology course in a Board of Technical Education approved by the Department of Technical Education, Government of Kerala.
- B.Tech Mechanical Engineering Lateral Entry is open to candidates who have completed a 3-year diploma in Plastic Technology and Diploma in Plastic Mould Technology that are provided by CIPET.
- Pass a minimum of 60% qualifying diploma examination.
- The upper age limit shall be 25 years with reference to 1st July of the current academic year.

The School of Engineering, CUSAT B.Tech Lateral Entry Admission Process
In the School of Engineering, CUSAT, a simplified admission process has been developed that involves an admission process encompassing the following steps:
Step 1: Register on the admission portal of CUSAT and complete the first registration with some basic details.
Step 2: Select the engineering course that you wish to pursue and confirm the eligibility criteria based on the qualifying exam marks.
Step 3: Enter the comprehensive application form with the personal information, academic information and contacts.
Step 4: Take the CUSAT entrance exam (in the case of undergraduate programs) or also get GATE qualified (in the case of a postgraduate program), and then be counselled.
Step 5: Wait until allotment of seats on merit is done, verification of all documents and confirmation of eligibility on the basis of the counselling process.
Step 6: Complete the online payment portal and pay the admission fee, and official admission is conferred.

The School of Engineering, CUSAT B.Tech Lateral Entry Examination Pattern
School of Engineering, CUSAT has a system that is semester-based for examination whether on-campus or online. This year is split into two semesters, and assessment is through both continuous internal (assignments, quizzes, mini-projects, presentations, mid-semester examinations) and end-of-semester examinations. On-campus activities involve compulsory laboratory examination tests and project reviews. The grading is based on UGC guidelines and is on a credit system. Online courses also have the same academic standards, including proctored online examinations or exams that are administered at specific locations. The evaluation system focuses on theoretical and practical skills, thereby making sure that the learning outcomes of students are assessed in a complete manner.
