The SRM Institute of Science and Technology B.Tech Lateral Entry is a course that enables diploma graduates to receive the name of B.Tech (post completion of diploma), and those who are eligible receive a fast-tracked path to receiving their four-year B.Tech degree by enrolling directly into the second year of the course. This is a three-year intensive course where, after the completion of the diploma course in engineering or any similar course, students can easily pass to the second year and save time whilst receiving extensive technical knowledge and industry experience skills. SRMIST is considered one of the leading universities in India, where this opportunity is offered at its various campuses within Kattankulathur, Ramapuram, Vadapalani, and other campuses.
The SRM B.Tech (Post Completion of Diploma) program will be aimed at filling the difference between the technical training at the diploma level of technical training and high-level engineering training. - The job seekers must have completed a 3-year diploma course in engineering/technology at a recognized university/college.
- The applicants should also have at least 60% marks in their respective specialization in a recognized institute in their diploma.

The Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) offers flexible payment options for fees to help families. In addition to merit-based scholarships and entrance exams, the university has several tie-ups with banks and other financial institutions for education loans with EMI facilities as an option. SRMIST B.Tech Lateral Entry Admission Process
Here's a detailed description of the admission procedure of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST).
Step 1 : Admission at SRMIST occurs on the basis of merit, of the university-level examination, or a national-level entrance exam.
Step 2 : For admission into engineering disciplines (B.Tech), students need to take the SRMJEEE exam.
Step 3 : For admission into medical courses, the NEET will be the basis of admission.
Step 4 : For management studies programs, such as MBA, the university accepts scores for nationally accepted exams (CAT, XAT, MAT, CMAT, NMAT), or from the university exam.
Step 5 : For under/grads/post grads, acceptance occurs depending on your college exam and/or qualifying exam scores.
Step 6 : Students will apply via the official admission portal online.
Step 7 : The application form will require, beyond other information, personal, academic qualifications, and course preferences.
Step 8 : After submission is complete, students will upload the required documentation and pay the application fee online.
Step 9 : Once the applications are complete, SRMIST will choose qualified students for either a round of interviews or counseling, based on each program.
Step 10 : Students will select a course and/or campus based on either merit or available spaces.
Step 11 : Admission will be complete only after acceptance of the admission fee and document verification.

SRMIST B.Tech Lateral Entry Examination Pattern
All programs at SRMIST are subject to an examination system under a semester system prescribed by UGC. Part of the total marks will come from the internal assessments, assignments, quizzes, and class participation, while the end-of-semester (external) exams will cover everything in the syllabus. In the case of the SRMJEEE (engineering entrance exam), the pattern is online and remote proctored, consisting of 130 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) with equal marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, while there is a section on English & Aptitude to be completed within 2.5 hours. One mark can be obtained for every right answer, without negative marking. Candidates must register for examinations and obtain the hall tickets before attending.

The SRM B.Tech (Post Completion of Diploma) enables diploma students to enter the second year of the B.Tech program and finish their graduation in just three years rather than four. Admission occurs regularly, beginning with the first year, and is completed in four years.
The application fee is 1,400/-, which is not refundable. Applications are done online via the SRMIST portal directly to B.Tech (post-completion of diploma) programs. The admission is done based on diploma marks and the counselling process.
Yes, lateral entry students are given the same B.Tech degree as a normal student. The degree does not make any distinction between normal admission and lateral admission, and thus, higher education and employment are given the same value and recognition.
In most cases, students have been found to be staying in the same branch as they were in their diploma major. Nonetheless, under the condition of the free seat and academic qualification, it can be requested that there be minimal changes in the branch during the counselling process. The admission office is the best place to refer to regarding particular cases.
SRMIST provides financial aid in the form of scholarships and tuition fee aid to students whose performance in academics is exceptional, who have poor economic backgrounds, or who participate in sports or other extracurricular activities. The students of lateral entry are also able to apply to these scholarships due to merit and need.
The opportunities offered to lateral entry students are not different from those of regular students. In the SRM placements of 2025, the highest package was INR 29.5 LPA, and the average package was INR 5.60 LPA.
