The stream of commerce pertains to the study of a number of subjects that familiarise the student with aspects like management of commercial ventures, handling of finances, management of accounts, banking, business studies and management and so on. In essence, commerce as a stream of education concerns itself with the study of large scale sale and purchase of services, products or entities.
Recent research suggests that commerce is one of the most popular streams of education among students, with over 14% of all students taking up this stream after completing class 10th education. Students are often quite perplexed as to whether or not to opt for mathematics along with the commerce stream.
If not having enough course options after class 12th due to pursuing commerce without mathematics is your major concern–then worry not. There are a number of mainstream, top courses that are popular and heavily demanded in the industrial domain that you can take up after completing school education in the commerce stream without mathematics.
Here we have listed the major subjects that a commerce student studies in class 11th and class 12th if they are pursuing the commerce stream.
Thus, as can be seen, the commerce stream includes the study of a number of subjects that help the student to gain a holistic understanding of the various aspects of initiation and management of a commercial venture. While mathematics can certainly be a major facilitating subject in the study of commerce, especially with respect to accounting and economics, not having mathematics in the subject combination of commerce studies is not a setback or roadblock to your path of higher education in commerce.

While a misconception commonly persists among students as to the fact that many higher educational opportunities shut off for commerce students simply because they did not study mathematics in class 11th and 12th, this is not entirely true since a large number of courses in mainstream commerce can be pursued even without mathematics, among which top 10 have been described below.
A Bachelor of Commerce is one of the most popular and conventional educational pathways that a commerce school pass-out can consider. Despite being a popular and mass choice for undergraduate education after completing class 12th, it is still a highly valued qualification for commerce students and can be a major highlight on one’s resume, especially if they have an honours in the B.Com course.
A B.Com Hons can be pursued without having to study mathematics (although having a foundational knowledge of maths can be helpful in navigating the course better) and allows the student to choose a specialisation of their choice in addition to covering the fundamentals of commerce.
