Eligibility for PhD Program at IIT Ropar

1) Eligibility for Regular Full-Time PhD Programme:

Applicants must meet the educational qualifications and research area requirements as specified on the institute's website or advertisement. Registrations are generally open in the following areas:

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

• GATE or Equivalent Qualification: Not required.
• Professional Experience: A minimum of 2 years of full-time employment as of the application deadline.
• Organization/Institution: The sponsoring organization must have at least 5 years of existence (exceptions for CFTIs/GFTIs). The candidate must be engaged in R&D activities, and the organization should have adequate research facilities.
• Sponsorship/NOC: An unconditional sponsorship or NOC from the employer is mandatory at the time of joining. IIT Ropar bears no financial liability for ERP candidates.

3) Eligibility for Direct PhD Programme

This program is open in the following areas:

• PhD in Engineering: BME, CE, CH, CSE, EE, ME, MME
• PhD in Science: Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics (only for CFTIs)
• PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

For Students from Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs):

• Must be in the final year of B.Tech/BE.
• No GATE or equivalent national exam is required.
• A minimum CGPA of 8.0 out of 10.0.
• For Students from Non-CFTIs:
• Must be in the final year of B.Tech/BE.
• GATE or equivalent national exam qualification is required at the time of joining.
• A minimum CGPA of 8.0 out of 10.0.

4) Eligibility for Part-Time PhD Programme

Who is Eligible? 

Applicants must complete one of the following criteria:

Master's Degree:

• ME/MTech, MD, MPharm, MVSc, or MDS with at least 60% marks (6.5/10 CGPA).
• SC/ST candidates get relaxation as per government rules.
• Master's in Sciences:
• MSc/MS with at least 60% marks (6.5/10 CGPA) and a valid GATE/UGC/CSIR-NET/INSPIRE fellowship.

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Pharmacy:

• BE/BTech/BPharm with 65% marks (7.0/10 CGPA) and valid GATE score.
• IIT graduate with at least an 8.0 CGPA is exempted from GATE.

• Minimum 65% marks (7.0/10 CGPA).
