AI estimates based on 2021–2025 NTA marks-vs-rank data, adjusted for the 2026 re-exam. Rank compression between 580–650 marks is very high. A 5–10 mark difference can shift thousands of ranks, so counselling strategy matters as much as your score.

Qualifying Cutoff vs Admission Cutoff

The single most misunderstood thing about NEET

Qualifying cutoff is the minimum percentile set by NTA just to be eligible for counselling. For General category that is the 50th percentile, roughly 140–162 marks. Clearing it does not get you a seat.

Admission cutoffis the actual closing rank at which a seat is allotted in a specific college during counselling. For a government MBBS seat, the General-category admission cutoff is around 600+ marks, far above the qualifying mark. This gap is why a student can "qualify NEET" yet still not get a government seat.

CategoryQualifying PercentileApprox Marks
General50th percentile140–162
EWS50th percentile138–158
OBC40th percentile118–137
SC40th percentile98–118
ST40th percentile93–113
PwBD (General)45th percentile128–148
PwBD (Reserved)40th percentile93–113

Qualifying percentiles are fixed by policy and stable year to year. The marks that map to them shift with paper difficulty. Source: NTA NEET 2025 qualifying data.

Top Medical Colleges by NEET Rank (2026)

Which colleges open up at each All India Rank bracket
AIR BracketRepresentative Colleges (AIQ, General)
AIR 1–100AIIMS New Delhi, MAMC New Delhi
AIR 100–500VMMC New Delhi, JIPMER Puducherry, AIIMS Jodhpur
AIR 500–2,000LHMC New Delhi, KGMU Lucknow, Seth GS Mumbai, IMS BHU Varanasi
AIR 2,000–5,000BJMC Pune, MMC Chennai, Bangalore Medical College, BJMC Ahmedabad
AIR 5,000–15,000GMC Calicut, RNT Udaipur, UCMS Delhi, top periphery AIIMS

AIR 40,000–1,00,000Deemed universities (KMC Manipal/Mysore), top private colleges, govt BDS/BAMS

Reserved-category candidates reach these colleges at higher rank numbers. State quota opens government colleges 30,000–80,000 ranks earlier than AIQ. Use the predictor above for your personalised list.

AIQ vs State Quota: What's the Difference?

Understand both routes to maximise your seat chances
All India QuotaState Quota
Seat Split15% seats in every state govt college85% remaining seats in home-state colleges
EligibilityOpen to all Indian students equallyOnly for candidates with local state domicile
Conducted ByMCC (Medical Counselling Committee)Respective State Education Authority
Cutoff LevelHigher cutoffs due to national competitionLower cutoffs; helpful for low-score entries
ReservationCentral rules (OBC 27%, SC 15%, ST 7.5%)Varies heavily by state reservation matrix

Key takeaway: Register for both. A rank that misses AIQ can comfortably clear state quota, because the two run on separate cutoffs and seat matrices.

NEET 2026 State Quota Cutoff (Expected, by State)

Approx General-category marks for state-quota government MBBS
StateExpected MarksNotes
Rajasthan615–625Highest cutoffs due to extreme local student concentration
Delhi620–635Extremely low seat pool relative to massive elite applicant counts
Uttar Pradesh605–615Intense competition but buffered by recent state expansion programs
Haryana605–615High cutoffs; strict multi-year institutional service bonds apply
Bihar600–612Fierce competition; limited private backup options available
Kerala610–620Very high local qualifying averages across regular state boards
Maharashtra580–595Favourable ratios due to abundant institutional infrastructure
Madhya Pradesh565–580Strict domicile rules keep outside competition completely out
Gujarat575–590High reservation splits leave fewer free-floating unreserved seats
Karnataka560–575Abundant open seats lower cutoffs across institutional metrics
Tamil Nadu565–580High structural retention keeps local applicants inside state options
West Bengal570–585Moderate balances across urban vs regional seat placements

State-quota cutoffs run roughly 50–60 marks below AIQ and are computed on state rank, not All India Rank. Reserved categories close lower. Figures are expected ranges for the 2026 re-exam, not official cutoffs.
