Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University (BRABU) is a state university located in Muzaffarpur in the state of Bihar in India, which was founded in 1960. In the name of the great social reformer and the father of the Indian Constitution, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the university was established with the aim of delivering quality higher education to students of the state of Bihar. The university began with a few colleges affiliated with it offering simple undergraduate courses across the fields of arts, science, and commerce disciplines.

BRABU has grown by leaps and bounds over the decades and currently caters to the demands of more than 4 lakhs of students across Bihar, covering a spread of about 480+ affiliated colleges. The university has in place distance learning programs, which started functioning in 1997, to focus on the needs of the working professional and those students who did not have time to attend regular classes. This gap had to be filled by the Distance Education Department, which introduced a change and a balance between conventional classroom learning and flexible delivery of education.
