Dayananda Sagar University was established in 2014 as part of the Dayananda Sagar Institutions, founded by Sri Dayananda Sagar in the 1960s. DSI or Dayananda Sagar Institution was founded with a vision of educating the masses and making people responsible citizens, and a mission to create an environment that enhances the creativity and innovation of the learners.

The Institution is spread across 5 campuses and has educated over 17,000 students.
