Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University (DDUGU) was established in 1950 in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. It is the first state university to emerge as a leading higher studies centre after Independence in the state. The university has the motto of “आ नो भद्राः क्रतवो यन्तु विश्वतः,” which means “Let noble thoughts come to me from all directions.” This aspect of the university reflects its openness to diverse perspectives, values, and cultures in both its academic and organizational spheres, enabling it to earn an A++ accreditation from NAAC. It is also recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
