About IGNOU Online MLIS
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) offers a variety of postgraduate courses including Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS). This program is available in the distance mode at the university & follows a hybrid module of learning. This program has been restructured by highly experienced faculty members to meet the technological demands of today’s industry.
A PG degree in MLIS at IGNOU is UGC-DEB-approved & holds the same credibility as that of a regular MLIS program. The program is best suited for individuals who are already working in the library & information science field after completing their graduation & for those who want to get into this field with an authentic degree. The flexibility of this course makes it feasible for working professionals to acquire a master’s degree without quitting their job.
The curriculum of this professional program equips the learners with Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) that make them understand the internet or technology-driven methodologies of the field. The core learnings of the topic strengthen the theoretical knowledge of the learners & the practicals, projects, & seminars included in the curriculum enhance their practical learning.
At the end of the program, students are supposed to submit their assignments, projects/dissertations & appear for the theory exams at the regional centers of the university. To get an industry-recognized degree in MLIS, students need to pass both term-end exams (TEE) & continuous assessments as the university has divided the final evaluation between TEE & assessments in the weightage of 70% & 30%, respectively.

Who Can Apply?

IGNOU EMI Details
IGNOU Online offers the option of Credit Card/Debit card/Net Banking in its fee payment options but does not provide you a “No Cost EMI” option as of now for any of the online courses.
IGNOU Admission Process
The process for IGNOU online course admission can be completed via the official website’s admission portal. The steps involved in the admission process are listed below.
Step 1: Visit the official website of the university & click on the “Apply Now” tab.
Step 2: Fill out the student registration form & register yourself with the university.
Step 3: After registration, re-login to the admission portal & fill out the admission application form.
Step 4: Upload the scanned copies of mandatory documents & submit the application form.
Step 5: Make the fee payment using payment methods as mentioned on the website.

IGNOU Examination Pattern
The examination pattern followed at IGNOU online for different types of courses is semester mode, i.e., exams are conducted by the university at an interval of 6 months. For online courses, exams are conducted through an AI-proctored tool for an unbiased performance evaluation of students.

MLIS is a 1-year long professional course that can be pursued to have a career in the library sciences. At IGNOU, this course can be completed in a flexible duration of 1-2 years.
Candidates who want to build a long-term career in the library & information science field can apply for the course of MLIS from IGNOU. The basic requirement to be eligible for the program is a BLIS degree with 45-50% marks from a recognized university.
