IIT Palakkad is among the youngest members of the IIT family, it was established in 2015. Currently IIT Palakkad Online is operating from its temporary campus inside the Ahalia Integrated Campus, Kozhippara, Palakkad. The permanent campus of IIT Palakkad is under construction in Kanjokode, Palakkad on about 500 acres of land. The institute offers many regular and online (executive) programs that include undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in multiple specializations.

In 2015, the Government of India declared IIT Palakkad an Institute of National Importance. The IITPKD has also partnered with and signed agreements with many leading universities like The University of California, Auckland University of Technology, The Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and many more. The advantage of this agreement will give an opportunity to B.Tech final year students to study their one semester at an abroad university that will give them global exposure.

The facilities and education offered at IIT Palakkad Online are top-notch and the campus is equipped with all the things needed in a student's academic life. The IIT Palakkad Online ranks 69th under the engineering category of NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework). Their various facilities include LMS, Moodle Library, Central Labs, E-Resources, Records Portal, and many more.
