Nirma University started its doctoral programme in the year of 2003. Since then, the university has offered a vibrant research environment for the students. The programmes are designed for students who wish to pursue their careers in the field of research and related fields. The duration of the doctoral programme at the university is 3 to 6 years. The university also offers financial assistance to the students enrolled in the PhD programme to support their research journey. The financial support varies depending on the programme chosen by the students. 

The admission process for the doctoral programme at the university is focused on the research and domain-related knowledge of the students. The university conducts an entrance examination, which is mainly to test the students' knowledge about research methodology and the domain knowledge of their chosen subject. The entrance exam is followed by the viva or interview. Those students who have cleared the UGC NET/ CSIR-NET or GATE examination are not required to appear for the university entrance exams. 

Moreover, the students can also opt for the online DBA program to earn their doctoral degree. The Doctor in Business Administration (DBA) is equivalent to the regular PhD program. Through the online DBA programme, the students will not only earn the ‘Dr’ title but also do not have to appear for any entrance exam to earn the degree.
