In 1872, Jesup Wakeman Scott donated 160 acres of land to build a university to train young people in the city. Unfortunately, in 1874, a year before launching the university, Scott died. At the start, the university had one teacher and two or three courses on painting and architectural drawing for a limited number of 26 students. Later universities get closed because of a lack of funds. 

On January 8th, 1884 university was reponed as Manual Training School. In 1886, the school began to admissions of female students. From 1914 universities began to move from secondary school education to institutions to provide bachelor’s education. By 1920, the university has renamed itself as Toledo University. Surviving WWII till now UTelodo has seen many challenges, changes in authority, mergers, etc. Currently, Utelodo is one of the few universities offering degrees in engineering, medicine, law, business, pharmacy, nursing, and education.
